PRODUCTION LEVERS

(01) Japan Craft Reality

The workshops you want do not have a sales team

They are small, often family-run, frequently booked a season ahead, and they take new clients the way they always have — through someone who vouches for you. No English site, no quote form, no reply to a cold email in either language.

So the makers a search turns up are the ones set up to be found, not the ones you saw and wanted. Reaching the others is a matter of introduction, and of arriving with a brief they can actually work from.

(02) Method

A brief they can work from

Most foreign production projects stall on the same thing: a brief written for a designer, handed to a workshop. We translate intent into drawings, tolerances and vocabulary a Japanese maker recognises — then stay on it until it ships.

Brief Reading

Product, quantities, quality level, timing

Sourcing Map

Makers and materials, with honest minimums

Sampling Rounds

Reviewed at the workshop, not over email

Production & Delivery

Quality, deadlines, checks, shipping

(03) Offers

Choose where to start

Start by finding out who can make it, and on what terms. Add the coordination when sampling begins.

ENTRY REVIEW

Sourcing Map

For teams who need to know if the product is even makeable here, and at what cost.

Brief reading, then a qualified shortlist of makers and ateliers with material options, realistic minimums, lead times and budget ranges — including an honest no where the answer is no.

ONGOING

Sampling & Production

For projects ready to prototype and produce.

We brief the maker in Japanese, run the sampling rounds, review prototypes at the workshop, negotiate terms, and follow quality and deadlines through to shipping.

(04) Why Kapsul

Why Kapsul for Japan production?

  • We Translate
    the Brief

Not the words — the drawings, tolerances and vocabulary. Most production problems here started as a brief the workshop could not read.

  • Good, and
    Exceptional

Japanese making has a wide top end and the price follows it. We tell you which level your project actually needs, which is often not the highest.

  • Met in Person,
    Not Listed

Ateliers, factories, material vendors and finishers we have visited, project by project. Introductions carry weight here; directories do not.

  • At the
    Workshop

Samples reviewed, quality checked and production seen on site. A photograph does not tell you what a finish feels like.
